Weather in Morocco for Film Production Planning
Morocco's weather varies sharply between coast, inland cities, mountains and desert. For a film, commercial or fashion shoot, the useful question is how conditions at the specific location and dates will affect light, access, equipment and crew welfare. This guide offers planning considerations; check a current local forecast before each shoot day.
Summer: heat and long days
Inland cities such as Marrakech and Fez and desert areas can be very hot in summer, especially during the middle of the day. Coastal locations may be milder but can be windy or humid. Plan shade, water, breaks and heat-sensitive equipment handling around the call sheet. Mountain weather can change quickly even when nearby cities are warm.
Winter: rain, cold and shorter daylight
Atlantic coastal and northern areas may see more rain in the cooler months. Higher Atlas locations can experience snow and difficult road access, while desert nights can be cold. Shorter daylight affects exterior scheduling, so build weather cover and travel buffers into the plan.
Spring and autumn: assess each location
These seasons can offer a useful balance for many productions, but conditions still vary by region. Wind, dust, rain and temperature swings may affect a shoot on any date. A Marrakech street, an Essaouira waterfront and a Merzouga desert setup need different contingency plans.
Build weather into the production schedule
During location scouting, consider sunrise and sunset times, prevailing wind, precipitation, road access, shelter, power and nearby crew facilities.
